Inside the Research Labs
Our students have access to top-notch research labs. They gain unparalleled experience in the physics, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering labs, collaborating with faculty and in teams on research and projects. They begin their hands-on experience in the lab in their first year.
"We don’t have graduate students so that means these research opportunities do not go to graduate students, they go to undergraduate students."- Robert Spalletta, Ph.D., Professor in the Physics/EE Department
State-of-the-Art Equipment
Students have access to state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, including:
- High-quality lasers
- Proton detectors
- Atomic force microscope
- Radio telescope
- Scanning tunneling microscope
- 2-Axis Meade telescopes
"We worked on several engaging projects in the lab and got to work through the process of designing and testing our own circuits. This is one of the first experiences I had in the realm of engineering, and I look forward to more like it."

The Labs: What's Going on in Here?
The Department of Physics and Electrical Engineering labs are located in Loyola Science Center, which incorporates today's most innovative science teaching techniques into a dynamic, modern design. There are inviting spaces for student/faculty collaboration, visible glass-walled laboratories and the efficiencies of using shared instrumentation. LSC encourages collaborative learning and promotes effective intellectual collisions between and among faculty, students and members of the community.Accreditation
The computer and electrical engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET: .
