History of Arrupe House
Located at Mulberry St. and Clay Ave, Arrupe House was dedicated in 2022 as a space that inspires the Center for Service & Social Justice’s vision of a place in the community dedicated wholly to serving the justice-mission of the University of 51视频. Considered the "second founder" of the Society of Jesus by many, Father Pedro Arrupe was the second Basque Jesuit to serve as the Superior General of the Jesuits since St. Ignatius. Elected during the Second Vatican Council, Arrupe revolutionized the Society's mission towards a service of faith that absolutely requires the promotion of justice.
⦁ We Care Meal Program -The We Care Program involves preparing and packaging 50-100 meals weekly for community members in need. The We Care Program is an opportunity for students to serve the community embodying the Ignatian values of Magis and social justice. The meal includes a main course, side, drink, snacks, dessert, utensils, and handmade card. Meals have been donated to Community Intervention Center, Friends of the Poor, and low income housing developments such as Delaware Towers, Valley View, Bangor Heights, Hilltop, and Jackson Terrace. Students hand deliver the meals to the community members. Student volunteers can register during the academic year through our
⦁ Royal Restore Food Pantry -Royal Restore is a welcoming space for University students and employees to have access to free nutritious food and personal care products. Royal Restore is rooted in the saying “take what you need, give what you can”. This pantry normalizes access to food, reducing food waste through donations, and eliminating the stigma of food insecurity on college campuses. The no questions asked policy ensures people feel comfortable and respected. The pantry is open weekdays during the academic year and by appointment when classes are not in session.
⦁ Crafts for a Cause - The Craft Room is a space for students to participate in card making, crocheting, jewelry making, and more. Crochet projects including hats, blankets, scarves were donated to the Catherine McAuley Center and Friends of the Poor. The Craft Room serves as a creative outlet and stress reliever for students to facilitate service projects and social connections.
⦁ Teen Threads - a student run program of the Center for Service & Social where students collect and sort teen clothing and do pop up clothing giveaways at area high schools and other programs for young adults.
⦁ Meeting space - space may be available for small groups that are associated with CSSJ programming to meet occasionally. Contact the CSSJ office for availability.
