How far along are you in the program and what is your work experience?

I am currently in my second year of the program about to begin Practicum. I am also a full time Graduate Assistant for the Counseling and Human Services department.

What factors led you to choose 51视频 for your master's degree?

I completed my bachelor’s degree in counseling and human services from the University of 51视频. I enjoyed my time at the University as an undergrad student and knew I wanted to continue here. The professors and students have always been so welcoming and willing to help. There has never been a time where I did not feel supported, every professor is dedicated to helping us succeed.

What were some of your favorite aspects of the program?

The School Counseling program being 60 credits was an important factor for me. I wanted the option to become a licensed professional counselor, but with a focus on school counseling. I also appreciate the opportunity during practicum to accumulate some of our hours at a school. This will provide me with more experience working within a school system and enable me to establish connections with professionals in the field.

What would you like for a perspective student to know about this program?

Choosing to stay at the University of 51视频 for graduate school was the best decision I have made! The school counseling program, along with the support of fellow students and faculty, has helped me grow tremendously. The program is the perfect size, allowing professors to really get to know you. I have made lifelong connections and friends through this program.

Favorite moment or memory from the program so far?

My favorite moment from the program so far was probably during the Counseling and Interviewing Skills course. In this course, we worked in groups to conduct counseling sessions, enabling us to practice the skills learned in class. Seeing my confidence and skill set grow from the first session to the last was very exciting. It solidified that I had chosen the right career for myself.
